Dear Evan Hansen - Movie Review

Return to Sender.

I can’t bring myself to even justify this terrible film with the full review treatment. This is by far the worst musical adaptation I can remember.

And yes, I’d rather watch CATS.

This white privileged, tone deaf, homophobic, and downright creepy play was adapted with changes made to characters to try and cover up the obvious flaws in the original production, but failed to get it even close to an acceptable film. It fails in every aspect of production most obviously the casting. The star of the film is supposed to be 17, but Ben Platt is pushing 30 and he doesn’t have the chops or the look to pull of a 13 year age gap, especially in 4k. So you get to see an obvious 30ish year old man creeping on Kaitlyn Dever who is playing a 17 year old convincingly. Because she’s actually a talented actress.

This movie needs an Outstanding Universal Failure award from the Razzies. Create a new category.

This is the film equivalent to huffing gasoline.

Avoid this like the plague.
